Anti-Bullying

At All Saints we believe that children have the right to be in a secure environment, to feel safe in school, protected from all types of bullying.

The importance of this issue is underlined by the School’s Anti-Bullying Policy. We consider bullying to be against our ethos and completely unacceptable. Bullying is not tolerated at All Saints. We are a caring community who seek to teach respect and tolerance. Students and parents are encouraged to make the school aware of instances of bullying, which staff can then deal with.

What is bullying?

"Bullying is the wilful, conscious desire to threaten, intimidate or hurt someone, which may be repeated over time, which involves a real or perceived power imbalance"

This means that a bully is someone who hurts another person usually more than once, by using behaviour which is meant to scare, hurt or upset that person.

It might help to use the word ‘STOP’ to identify bullying:

Purpose

Bullying is behaviour which is usually repeated on purpose and is meant to upset someone.

If you are concerned about being bullied, you know someone who you think is being bullied or you are concerned about your behaviour towards others, there are lots of people to whom you can talk.

As a school we have adopted See Something, Hear Something, Say Something to help pupils speak up about any concerns they have. We also have a group of pupils who advocate being a buddy not a bully, promoting our catholic values of being a family and caring for each other in the right way

There may be times when a young person needs to speak to someone if they believe that they, or someone else, is being bullied, in this instance pupils should:

  1. Speak to any adult they trust about their concerns around bullying.
  2. (This might be a pupil’s form tutor, pastoral support, a member of the safeguarding team or Progress Leader.)

  3. Report incidents of bullying and other incidents at the blue post boxes around school.
  4. (These are placed outside the safeguarding office, the KS3 and KS4 pastoral offices – pupils can report issues anonymously to these boxes if they would prefer to.)

  5. Speak to a pupil ambassador about their concerns.
  6. (We have a pupil leadership team and a team of prefects who have been selected due to their ability to lead and support younger pupils.)

The pastoral Teams are here to support pupils and parents with any concerns they may have regarding bullying.
